I also got some video of Archie at the beach.. There was a helicopter flying around, and I don't know that he's ever heard/seen one, so I put Reiker's long line on him. He chases boats and cars, so I had no faith he wouldn't chase the helicopter! He ignored it, though.
Jill was capturing Reiker doing this trick, I call it "Shimmy". I realize it'll wreck my downstays for a while, but it's cute and easy to get him to focus on when there's stuff.. going on!
This is just from a couple weeks ago, when I was house sitting in the country. I tried playing the come game with Reiker back in March or so, and he couldn't focus well enough to even do 2' apart. Progress! :)
We went out to Centennial park July 4 to work some dogs, and Reiker got introduced to an agility jump there. He did maybe 10 reps of restrained jumping at 10", couldn't keep the bar up at 16. We also did some focus and some "drive building" work. He has a new trick, and I call it (somewhat non-politically correctly) Hands Are For Pain, after some bad training advice that a client of mine received and shared with me. He brings me his toy and I lightly slap his muzzle and head while he shakes his toy and growls. Great fun.
Anyway, that evening I think he did a super short session of restrained agility, and we've had four weeks since then. At least one week, he did nothing since he'd injured his foot. I can't remember if he worked all three of the other sessions or not.
While we were on our walk, I had Jill get some video of Reiker with his muzzle on. I've had a few conversations with people lately who haven't understood that a dog should be able to PANT FREELY when in a basket muzzle. So here's what it should look like!
We've been spending a night each week in Downtown Kamloops. I stay at my gramma's place, and Archie usually sleeps in her apartment with me, but Reiker usually sleeps in the car. It's worked out well so far.
We go out for a "last pee" around downtown after dark. I have started to put a 15' long line on him to give him a bit more room to move around, and he thinks he should be a drug dog! :)
This week, we got out of agility early and decided to take the dogs for a walk down the main drag in Kamloops. It was about 8:30 or so, so not super busy.
I put his muzzle on, since I'm working on getting him used to it. It's easier for him to not bother it when there's other sights and sounds to focus on.
We're been working on crate stuff. I hadn't used any hardware on his crate at all for several weeks, with no problems. I was delayed one day when house sitting and he pulled his crate open while I was out, but didn't destroy anything (thankfully!!), so when I noticed that he was pulling the "safety" apart on the one end of the crate, I put one padlock on each end. If I'm going out and think he's likely to be worried, I clip a bolt snap to the door for added security, but I think it's probably unnecessary. His overall crate anxiety has gone WAY down.
